Setting Up the Signal App

To maintain your privacy and ensure a secure communication environment, it’s essential to set up Signal in a way that protects your personal information. By following these steps, you can prevent sharing your phone number with clients and communicate using a unique username instead. This guide will walk you through the process of installing Signal, adjusting your privacy settings, and creating a username on both Android and iOS devices.

Setting Up Signal and Enhancing Your Privacy

For iOS:

  1. Download and Install Signal:
  • Open the App Store on your iOS device.
  • Search for “Signal Private Messenger.”
  • Tap “Get” and then “Install” to download and install the app.
  1. Get Started with Signal:
  • Open the Signal app.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to register using your phone number.
  • Enter the verification code sent via SMS.
  • Create a secure PIN to protect your account.
  1. Enhance Your Privacy:
  • Open the Signal app and tap your profile icon or initials in the top-left corner.
  • Select “Settings.”
  • Tap “Privacy.” -> Tap “Phone Number”
  • Under Who Can See My Number, select Nobody (this option is enabled by default). Next, you should select Nobody under Who Can Find Me By Number. This option is set to Everybody by default, a move to make it easier for people to find you on Signal. If you disable this, new contacts won’t be able to ping your phone number for Signal messages or calls.
  1. Create Your Username:
  • In “Settings”, tap “Profile” (bar with your picture and name at the top).
  • Tap “Username” and enter your desired username.
  • Save your username by tapping “Save” or the checkmark icon.
  • Provide your Signal “Username” to HeyU.Boo.

For Android:

  1. Download and Install Signal:
  • Open the Google Play Store on your Android device.
  • Search for “Signal Private Messenger.”
